PRAYER OF INVOCATION for
BALTIMORE POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE
CLASS of 1969 50th REUNION

as delivered by Paul Edgar...

O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!   Psalm 8:1 a

Dear Heavenly Father,

You have brought us all a long, long way from our commencement ceremony on that rainy June evening at the Baltimore Civic Center back in 1969.  And You have re-gathered us here tonight on this very happy occasion, fifty years later.

You have blessed us with a unique education at our beloved Baltimore Polytechnic Institute; You have established us in our respective callings and professions; You have given us friendships, spouses, children, homes, prosperity, and so much more along our respective journeys.

Tonight, it is with grateful hearts that we acknowledge Your Hand of blessing in all these things. Thank You for our many instructors at BPI, for the school’s administrative staff, and especially for our parents, who guided us through that crazy period of our lives.

May Your Presence, which is the happiness of every occasion, be with us abundantly – this evening and always.

May You guide us during our remaining days to be faithful to Your covenant  laws, and to live in grateful appreciation for all.
You have so graciously given us.

May our children, and our children’s children, always be Yours.

And may this abundant food, which we are about to enjoy, empower us for further service in the sure and certain advance of Your Kingdom here on earth.

Blessed art Thou, O Lord our God, King of the Universe, Who brings forth bread from the earth – and the Living Bread from Heaven.  Amen.

Highlights of the progress report on the Foundation & Alumni Association as presented by Angie Brickhouse

As you may know, the Foundation & Alumni Association work hand-in-hand to keep alumni connected to their alma mater, provide alumni and friends with opportunities to support school programming, sponsor a variety of alumni events, support reunions, market the successes of Poly to alumni, the Baltimore community, the State of Maryland and beyond, and strive to support Poly students, faculty and administrators in their goals.

It is very unique to have a Foundation in a public school, but we are able to do so because of the strong support from our alumni.
Annually the Foundation helps bridge the gap between the funding received from school headquarters the actual cost to provide a competitive STEM education.

In just a couple of weeks we will award about $90,000 in scholarships to our deserving students.

Through the Foundation’s support, Poly became the only school in MD to have a virtual reality lab and club.

This is just a small sample of the roughly $600,000 the Foundation provides to the school annually and I have seen first-hand the positive impact that such investments are having on our students.

This is evidenced by 13 students with perfect SAT scores last year, 4 National Merit Scholars and Poly's 94% pass rate on the PARCC Algebra I, compared with 63% in the State of Maryland.

Just this year, the State of MD issued its first ever public-school report card. I am pleased to report the Poly was one of only 2 schools in Baltimore City to receive a 5, the highest score possible.

We were also recently ranked the #4 STEM school in the nation by study.com

Yesterday we had Decision Day at Poly and celebrated the college acceptances of the Class of 2019. We had over 1100 acceptances to 208 different colleges including MIT, Brown, Princeton, Yale, Columbia and CalTech one of the top 5 engineering schools in the country. 84% of the class has been accepted into at least 1 college and 97.3% have applied to at least 1 post-secondary program (college/military). They have also earned an excess of $30 M in scholarships.
